The Grant Writer is primarily responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations, and will persuasively communicate the mission and programs to potential funders. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Grant Writer will assemble and submit grant requests/reports, establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts, conduct prospect research, and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines for LOI’s, grants and reports. This is a full time position set to start immediately.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be able to craft funding proposals, LOIs and reports in a clear and compelling manner. Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly-organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information. A high level of computer literacy required, to include working with a Fundraising Database and Foundation Directory databases. Candidates must possess an ability to work well under pressure and the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form.

  • Bachelor's degree, with 5-7 years of experience in grant/report writing for reputable organizations.
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
  • A track record of successfully acquiring grant funds through proposals that the candidate has written.
  • Must exhibit strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other office productivity tools (email, database management, digital media, etc).
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, preferably in the LA area and experience with medical and or child care organizations a significant plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with attention to detail as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
